Kaizen Tip No. 2: Keep in production area only necessary things
Check what is in your production area and remove anything what
is not necessary
Before:
There are so many red boxes with material, spare parts and so on. Production area
looks dirty. Nobody can find anything, hard to go through, high risk of injury, hard to
clean such area.
Customer will ask: "How often do they clean plant, equipment and jigs when they do
not clean shop floor?"
After:
Only a few boxes with material needed within next hour (or minutes) could be in
production area. The others must wait in the warehouse or kitting area. Use kanban or DBR (TOC method) to
keep low WIP (work in process).
Idea:
Keep production area as clean as possible. Minimize material storage in shop
floor. Remove everything what you do not need for process. And this true for your ofice
area as well. Use daily 5S!
