Hi,
there is NO window asking for where to save PDF. You HAVE to setup PDF printer to NOT DISPLAY any dialog window, rather to save PDF to some predefined folder.
I mentioned clearly this important thing:And you have to change Show dialog to option no - no view, no send. It has to be set this way as AS/400 cannot raise usual pdfFactory print preview window

Now I use pdfFactory 3.52 and there is Preferences-Setup tab with checkbox Do not show dialog, Check this and then set options bellow to match your needs.

Try and let me know, in the worst case I can provide remote support

I have the same problem as Ashish:

Ashish on 27.3.2010 18:19:22
I tried all the stuff mentioned, but of no use. Actually Im printing a form (spool file) the data in the spool file appears junk because the data is in HEX format. when i release the spool it gets stuck in the printer with status as Sent to Printer after that i do not see any window asking me where to save the pdf file.

My email id is b_harriman@sbcglobal.net

Thank you.

We are using a similar setup in that we are printing to a *.tif (using Microsoft Document Imaging) instead of a *.pdf... so far its work, but Ive only been playing with it for a couple hours today. Thanks!!! This is going to save a LOT OF TREES!!!

Hi Robert, I played around with the settings within the AS400 Printer session and I got a combination that printed the numbers, thanks for all your help.

Robert (Agile-Factory.com) on 8.7.2008 18:21:01
Hi Mike,
I use this way to print out especially numbers :)
Typical usage is invoicing, we never faces such problem.
The common problem is font size or paper orientation.

In your case I would check this way:
Set up common printer like HP and start it and then print to that
If numbers are OK, then PDFfactory has some wrong set up
If numbers are missing, then some kind of problem with printer set up (then try to play with setting of the printer icon - doubleclick to start the printer and then use the CA/400 menu there to adjust font etc.

Give me your feedback.

In the worst case, there is also a way how to get the data to e.g. Excel, Access or any other application to make Windows-like report with logo, graphic, fonts etc
This way I use eg for printing purchase orders to have nice easy to understand look.

Hi Robert,
I setup the session fine and tested with pdf factory and Adobe PDF, I get the PDF fine but I am not getting number values on query reports otherwise the formatting looks fine, have you any ideas why it does not like numbers. Thanks, Michael

It seems it is pure AS400 problem or setting. Some reports go to HLD automatically based on the setting.

Check the different report, and check to print to some ofice printer as I proposed before.
This way you would eliminate PDF virtual printer as a source of your problem

Js on 4.7.2008 9:34:15
No, same result with any printer.

Yes the first time i tried to print it got into MSGW and then I gave the answer G, after that it goes everytime straight into HLD.

OK, but thanks anyway.

I have no experience with such behavior. Printing of the same report to the other printers (like HP LJ) works fine?

Sometimes happen MSGW (message waiting) in WRKOUTQ due to different paper size set up in PDF printer and AS400 report format.
Check this first. This should help

Hello,

this is a great solution but Im having trouble to get it to work. Everytime I try to print, the job is going straight into hold (HLD) possition when checking WRKOUTQ for the printer.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Mike,
Could you give me more details about your problem?

Also I need to know which software you use for making PDF. PDFfactory or something else?

Have you tried to print to that PDF printer from any Windows application? If yes, result was OK?

Have you tried to print to that PDF printer test page Windows printing setup Control panel?

Mike on 17.3.2008 19:16:53
the page is great, i follow your steps but when i print i get a blank preview.
